Catawba County commissioners to adopt FY 2026/27 budget with no tax increase; $10,000 added to SALT Block

Catawba County commissioners reviewed proposed adjustments to the county’s FY 2026/27 budget during a special called meeting on June 8, 2026, and agreed to proceed with a budget that does not include a tax rate increase.
County Manager Mary Furtado provided an overview of the modifications and reminded commissioners that departmental budget presentations occurred May 22 and a public hearing on May 26 produced requests for additional information and two tabled items. At the June 8 meeting, the board discussed outstanding decision points ahead of a scheduled budget adoption meeting on June 15, 2026.
On the key policy questions, the board reached consensus not to raise the property tax rate for FY 2026/27. Commissioners also asked whether the recommended SALT Block funding amount had changed; Furtado said she had not altered her recommendation and that the manager’s proposal included a $10,000 increase for the SALT Block program. The board by consensus agreed to move that recommendation forward.
The meeting concluded without further business. Upon a motion by Commissioner Barbara Beatty, which the minutes record as carrying unanimously, the meeting adjourned at 9:36 a.m. The board is scheduled to consider formal adoption of the FY 2026/27 budget at its regular meeting on June 15, 2026.
