She said children and families in Pacoima, Arleta and Sylmar face high temperatures, poor air quality and limited access to shade and parks, and said trees are "an investment in people" that improve health, reduce energy costs and advance environmental justice.
Ramos told the committee she would prioritize bridging representation gaps across council districts, helping residents navigate resources and city services, and seeking collaborative grants and partnerships to grow the tree canopy in underserved neighborhoods. When asked about challenges, she noted limited participation from all council districts and the need for stronger representation and outreach.
A motion to approve the mayor's appointment was seconded by Isabel Gerardo. Roll call recorded Council member Nazarian: Aye; Council member Yaroslavsky: absent; Council member Gerardo: Yes; Council member Raman: Yes; Council member Padilla: Yes. The appointment was approved.
Ramos will serve as the District 7 primary representative on the Community Forest Advisory Committee and said she plans to focus on equitable tree investments and long‑term stewardship in her district.
