Andover board approves $3,400 garage-door repair, flags deteriorating salt shed

The Andover Select Board on Dec. 16 authorized spending up to $3,400 from the Town Garage Repair and Maintenance account to fix a snapped track and spring cable on the town garage door.
Road Commissioner Per Tripp told the board the door malfunctioned while opening and provided a quote from Overhead Door Company for repairs. Chair Brian Mills moved the authorization; the motion was seconded by Select Board member Fred Detheridge and carried.
Tripp also told the board the salt shed and an adjacent storage shed are in poor condition, with cracking concrete that raises concerns during deliveries and potential permitting complications because of nearby wetlands. He said the garage’s interior drainage already runs slowly and that using or creating drains improperly could expose the town to fines; he suggested arranging off-site washing with a local facility as an interim step.
Mills suggested checking the Maine Local Roads program for assistance. The board did not approve a replacement shed at the meeting but asked staff and the road commissioner to explore funding and permitting options.
The vote and discussion were recorded in the meeting minutes; the board directed the Road Commissioner to follow up on options and report back.
