City Manager Klunder told the Zeeland Personnel Committee on Jan. 28 that HR Specialist Hellenthal is reviewing recommended general scale increases for non‑union positions for Fiscal Year 2026–27, with preliminary indications ranging from 2.8% to 3.5%. Klunder cited a recent West Coast Chamber Economic Outlook presentation that estimated a 3.2% average across sectors.
Klunder said the committee has not yet received a formal recommendation and no decision was made at the meeting; staff continue to evaluate market data and internal budget impacts before presenting a specific percent increase for approval.
On staffing, Klunder reported that the Fire/Rescue Chief hiring process is progressing: four candidates have been interviewed, and on Feb. 9 the management team will meet one of the finalists. The goal is to complete a hiring decision and appoint a new chief by March 1, 2026.
The committee did not take a formal vote on pay scale guidance at the Jan. 28 meeting. The session concluded with routine adjournment.
