BPW approves $23,495 pump rebuild and $147,235 purchase of three Ford F-150s

The Zeeland Board of Public Works approved two procurement items at its Jan. 13 meeting: a spare pump rebuild for the Carlton Pump Station and the purchase of three 2026 Ford F-150 pickup trucks.
Water Operations Manager Postma told the board that a routine inspection found a leaking seal on pump 1 at the Carlton Pump Station. Staff installed the spare pump and, on inspection, found several parts requiring replacement. Postma requested approval for Kennedy Industries to rebuild a spare pump at a total cost of $23,495 to limit downtime in the event of pump failure. Commissioner Query moved to approve the Kennedy Industries rebuild; Commissioner Walters seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
Separately, staff presented a request to purchase three 2026 Ford F-150s to replace and reallocate vehicles in the Water and Electric T&D fleets. The Capital Improvement Plan included $92,000 for Water and $52,000 for Electric T&D; staff recommended budget amendments of $6,500 for Water and $3,000 for Electric T&D to cover higher-than-anticipated vehicle costs. The board awarded a vehicle purchase contract to Barber Ford Inc. totaling $147,235 and authorized surplus trucks #545, #551 and #553 to be submitted to local auction with reserve bids. Delivery is expected in spring 2026. The motion carried with all voting aye.
The board recorded no dissenting votes on either procurement action. Staff will proceed with contracting and surplus procedures in accordance with BPW and City policies.
