Land-and-water committee backs draft riverfront strategic plan, board to receive full document July 21

The Land and Water Use Committee recommended the Riverfront Redevelopment Authority bring a largely finalized riverfront strategic plan to the full board for review, a committee member said at the June 16 meeting.

Kathy, a member of the Land and Water Use Committee, told the board the committee met June 9 and made only minor formatting and content changes to the several-page draft. “It was the recommendation from the committee that we bring it to the full board. So, you will be receiving this document at the July 21st meeting,” Kathy said.

The committee asked trustees to review the draft before the next meeting; if recommended, the plan would return for a recommendation vote in July or August and — if approved by the authority — be sent to City Council for consideration on Sept. 1. The agenda note and committee remarks make clear the July 21 delivery is for board review rather than a vote.

The committee also thanked staff members Jared and David for their work compiling the draft and arranging multiple meetings to resolve details.

Board members confirmed the item on a future agenda will be a procurement action to put the plan out for bid for a consultant to write the final plan. A trustee asked whether the forthcoming vote would authorize a consultant procurement; Kathy confirmed the proposal is to put the consultant work out to bid and trustees will vote on that when the item is presented.

The authority did not take further action on the plan at the June 16 meeting; the next step is board review of the document at the July 21 meeting followed by a recommendation hearing later in the summer.
