Brown County declares local disaster emergency after storm damage

Emergency Management Coordinator Brandon Roberts told the board the county has asked townships to document all storm-related expenses and damage, including photographs, to help the county meet the damage threshold required for state disaster assistance. Roberts outlined which types of public and private property damages should be reported and said the county will post reporting forms and guidance on its website.
Roberts presented Resolution 2026-18 to the board. Commissioner Richard Tesoriero moved to adopt the proclamation; Commissioner William Pollock seconded the motion and it carried. County Counselor Austin Parker was asked to provide legal guidance on the reporting process and any legal considerations for damage submissions.
The board recessed into an attorney-client executive session during the meeting to discuss potential legal liability; the board returned to open session with no action taken. Additional executive sessions concerning pay and performance of non-elected personnel were held later in the meeting; those sessions also ended with no action taken.
Next steps announced by staff include collecting township documentation and posting disaster-reporting materials on the county website so residents and local governments can file eligible claims.
