The Castine Selectboard voted unanimously to award the Community Park Storywalk trail contract to Adventure Yards after the company submitted the low bid and completed a site visit on Aug. 1. Ina Schonberg (CEDD), who reviewed the bid and checked references, recommended the award, saying references were "glowing" and that Adventure Yards has municipal experience and expertise in ADA-accessible trails.
Dan Leader moved to award the project and Amy Gutow seconded; Chair Roberta Boczkiewicz called the question and the motion passed 3-0. The board and the presenter discussed logistics including where machinery would be parked and timing; Adventure Yards told town staff it can begin work around Aug. 15.
Why it matters: the Storywalk trail is an active-recreation and accessibility project for the Community Park that the town has pursued through public grant and local procurement steps. Selectboard members said reference checks and a site visit informed their confidence in the vendor.
The Selectboard did not discuss contract dollar amounts during the motion; additional procurement paperwork and any required contract documents will be processed by town staff prior to the contractor beginning work. The Selectboard also handled several other routine items during the meeting, including warrants and minutes approvals.
