Residents at the Tinicum Township Board of Supervisors meeting on April 7 urged the board to address severe potholes, truck traffic and early‑morning noise on Durham Road and at the Dark Hollow/Cafferty Road intersection.
Claudia Davis, a 27‑year resident of Durham Road, said tractor‑trailers, fuel trucks and landscapers routinely damage the road, leaving dangerous potholes and loose stones on driveways. She reported a garbage collector who recently fell into a pothole and asked why the trucks are permitted to operate as early as 5:00–5:30 a.m.; she asked the board to consider limiting start times.
Supervisor John Cole said tractor‑trailers must currently be allowed access to that road and noted the township has a noise ordinance for complaints; he said road repairs are planned but may require hiring an outside contractor.
Police Chief Madden told the board the Tinicum Township Police Department filed 291 incident reports in March: 78 service calls, 76 criminal or investigative matters, 119 traffic incidents and 18 entries for training and court. She said officers responded to a two‑vehicle crash at River Road and East Dark Hollow after a driver failed to stop, and that the department conducted 27 truck details on River Road in March in response to increased incidents at the bridge. Chief Madden reported three bridge strikes during the month; one driver was cited, one left the scene, and one matter was handled overnight by PSP. She also reported eight truck violations and seven citations during March enforcement.
Manager Judith Danko said Public Works would inspect reported potholes and recorded resident complaints, and she encouraged residents to file noise complaints under the township's existing ordinance. The board suggested trimming vegetation at the Cafferty/East Dark Hollow intersection to improve visibility and said PennDOT has reviewed the intersection in the past.
No formal policy changes or traffic‑restriction ordinances were enacted at the meeting; supervisors directed staff to investigate and deferred potential regulatory changes for future consideration.
