Ground Water Management Committee presents 25-year well monitoring data and urges homeowner testing

Members of the Tinicum Township Ground Water Management Committee on Feb. 3 presented their annual report, summarizing more than 25 years of monitoring from roughly 40 wells and urging residents to participate in water‑quality testing and committee work.
Ms. Carrie Manfrino described the committee’s monitoring program, which uses some continuously recording loggers and a seasonal sampling program to capture annual high and low water points. The committee maintains a comprehensive database and has added emphasis on water‑quality initiatives and homeowner guidance about what to test, when, and how often. “The available data … has been collected on 40 wells for over 25 years,” Manfrino said, and she encouraged residents to review the committee’s materials on the township website or at BNTGMC.org.
Committee chair Tom Eckhoff provided the township manager an information package for homeowners that includes maintenance guidance for private water systems and septic considerations that affect groundwater quality. Ms. Manfrino said the committee is finalizing a proposed groundwater ordinance with township manager input and coordinating updates with neighboring Nockamixon; she hopes the ordinance will be finalized this quarter.
The committee asked for township involvement in protecting groundwater and for volunteers to help implement initiatives. Supervisors thanked the committee for its work and noted updates will continue to be coordinated with township staff.
