A committee member asked why repairs had taken a long time. Facilities staff said obsolete parts for the building’s older elevator model meant engineers needed to design a replacement solution, which included cutting roof access, refitting shafts and installing a new elevator. "They have to actually cut a hole in the roof, pull out the old elevators... and then drop in the new elevator," the facilities staff explained.
Procurement constraints: A member noted a potential contractor recommendation and asked why other firms weren’t used. Facilities staff responded there are a limited number of qualified local elevator contractors and that contractual or Request-for-Proposal rules can limit the district’s ability to switch vendors depending on contractual terms and procurement thresholds.
Next steps: Staff said work will be expedited where possible; no contract award or exact start date was provided in the subcommittee discussion.
