Athletic director praises spring seasons; board discusses bidding to host sectional finals

Nathan said four runners advanced from regionals to sectionals and three qualified for state; one athlete, Alyssa, finished 11th in the 200 and another, Jacob Tager, was the state runner-up in the 800. The softball team finished 23–4, were regional champions for the sixth straight year and produced several all-conference selections, including Harper Martin as player of the year.
Board members raised recurring concerns about sectional finals often being hosted at opponents’ fields. The board discussed the WIAA hosting process — athletic directors submit online bids to host sectional sites — and whether the district or co-op should submit a bid or otherwise pursue a neutral-site approach. Staff noted hosting requires facilities, gate collection and sufficient seating; hosting cross-country and other events had been done when no other host emerged.
No formal action was taken on a hosting policy; the discussion concluded with board members agreeing to explore whether the district could feasibly bid in the future.
The board also noted the fall sports meeting on Aug. 3 and encouraged continued coaching and athlete recognition work during the offseason.
