The Sandown Planning Board voted on March 17 to accept a letter of interest from Brian Lewango and appoint him as an alternate member. Chair Jaun White read the correspondence and the board discussed the usual appointment and swearing-in process; members noted the appointment may be formalized with the selectmen or by the clerk when required.
"We're definitely interested in getting some alternates," Chair Jaun White told Lewango after reading his letter. Board members clarified that an alternate can sit at the table, ask questions and, if appointed as a voting member for a given meeting, may vote. The board moved and voted to accept Lewango’s letter of interest and to appoint him as an alternate pending any required administrative formalities.
Separately, members discussed annual reassignments of officer roles (chair, vice chair, recording secretary) following town elections. Because several regular members were absent, the board agreed to postpone officer assignments until the next meeting when absent members can participate. The meeting adjourned after members agreed to reconvene with the full board to consider officer nominations.
