Oskaloosa schedules public hearing for Burlington Road reconstruction with $1.08M engineer estimate

The Oskaloosa City Council on May 18 set a public hearing and bidding timeline for the Burlington Road Reconstruction Project, with an engineer’s estimate of approximately $772,455 for pavement and storm sewer work and $312,575 for water main improvements.

City staff said Garden Associates prepared plans and specifications that would remove and replace pavement along Burlington Road between South 15th and 17th streets and related work on South 15th and 16th streets, install storm sewer (approximately 936 linear feet and 12 structures), and add sidewalks and driveways. The work described includes 4,045 square yards of PCC pavement and other concrete elements.

Staff told the council that Division 1 (PCC and storm sewer) is estimated at $772,455 and Division 2 (water main improvements) at $312,575; the water main work would be paid by the Oskaloosa Municipal Water Department. If awarded, the notice to proceed would be issued around Aug. 3 with contract completion anticipated by Nov. 20; bids are due June 25 and the council will hold a public hearing and agenda presentation July 6.

Why it matters: The project will affect a corridor of South 15th Street and Burlington Road, adding storm infrastructure and sidewalks while replacing pavement and water lines; the cost and schedule were placed on the public record for contractor bidding and resident review.

Next steps: Staff will advertise bids, accept proposals through June 25 and present bid openings to council at the July 6 hearing for final action.
