Superintendent Robinson updated the Bangor School Committee on personnel, communications and student-health developments and the committee approved several personnel items and accepted a broad collection of community donations.
Robinson said the district had hired a school-based behavioral specialist who will start in February and tied the position to work funded in part by an opioid settlement grant. She also described district communications initiatives, including a monthly student "Bangor Bulletin" and the "Beyond the Bell" podcast.
On health services, Robinson told the committee that school-based health clinics reported increases in enrollments since September, noting the packet showed increases described as "from 24 to 63%" and that a wait list for mental-health services remained. "We are deep into the FY27 budget process," Robinson added, and flagged an upcoming budget workshop on Feb. 11.
Board actions and personnel: the committee moved to approve the minutes of the Dec. 10, 2025 meeting and approved a teacher nomination for the 2025–26 year (a one-year probationary contract for Derek Jandro). Principal Swat introduced the candidate and praised his classroom fit and special-education experience. The committee also approved a slate of extra-duty coaching assignments.
Donations: Committee member Sprag presented and moved acceptance of an extensive list of donations—including clothing, gift cards, groceries and cash—directed to specific schools and the district (examples: warm gear and $200 from the University of Maine Golden Key Honor Society to Abraham Lincoln School; $675 from CNL Aviation to Vine Street School; and a $2,500 in-kind donation of toys, bikes and jackets to James F. Dowy School). Member Sprag moved acceptance "with gratitude," and the committee voted to accept the gifts.
What’s next: Personnel appointments and donations were approved by voice vote. District staff continue FY27 budget planning; the superintendent said staff will present more details at the February budget workshop.
