Residents ask for a street light; volunteers outline cleanup, band fundraiser and gaming events

During the citizens‑comment portion of the Batesville City Council meeting, two residents spoke about public safety, services and community events.

Savannah Warren said she represents a free adult‑education program located at 184 North Fifth Street and asked the council to consider installing a street light in the program’s parking lot so evening classes and events can proceed safely. She described the program’s offerings — free basic adult education, ESL, a "lit to go" book program and a language exchange — and asked the council to view the parking area at night or meet staff on site. "What we do is we provide basic adult education and ESL to the community for free and confidentially," Warren said, and she emphasized the need for improved lighting to run evening gatherings.

James Scales later described a community cleanup and cookout fundraiser on Nov. 9 (meeting at Maxville Park at 7 p.m.) to support the Batesville High School band’s trip to a workshop; he said volunteers and local businesses are donating supplies and that the event will include pressure‑washing and anti‑graffiti coating. Scales also previewed a multi‑city gaming event — a "Gauntlet" spanning several towns — designed to provide more recurring activity for younger residents and fans during the year.

Councilmembers encouraged follow‑up: Warren offered to host council members on site, and staff agreed to track the street‑light request.
