Batesville council adopts comp‑plan map change, rezones several blocks and approves water meter outside city limits

Council members read the resolution, moved and carried it by voice vote, then moved and carried an ordinance to amend the zoning map for that location.
Council also considered and adopted an ordinance amending the zoning map for Lots 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 in Block 3 of Maxfield’s Eastern Addition (14th and K streets), changing those parcels from R2 residential to C1 commercial so the block becomes contiguous commercial property. Councilors moved, suspended the rules for second and third readings where requested, and adopted the ordinance by voice vote.
Separately, staff presented a request from Jeffrey Stevenson for a second water meter at 84 Mitchell Road, which is outside the city limits; Stevenson signed a letter of intent agreeing to petition for annexation if the area becomes contiguous. The council moved, seconded and approved the meter request by voice vote.
Mayor Rick gball also asked for and received approval for a $3,681 expenditure from the community center permanent maintenance fund to buy pool furniture; that motion carried by voice vote as well.
