"You can self-report or schedule an appointment," Smith said. He added that the self-report process "literally takes three minutes of your time using your cell phone."
Smith said that after submission residents will be contacted by New Jersey American Water within a week and the company will indicate whether a service line is copper or if it needs to be replaced. For residents who opt for an in-person visit, Smith said company staff will go door-to-door and will be wearing identification badges and branded vests.
