Northfield council approves administrative hires, repeals payroll deductions and authorizes surplus sales

At its May 25, 2022 meeting the Village of Northfield council approved a series of administrative actions and public‑works updates.
Council adopted Resolution No. 2022‑34 to hire Ryan August as a part‑time mechanic after suspending the three‑reading rule and approving the measure by roll‑call vote. The council also adopted Resolution No. 2022‑35, designating Councilperson Jesse Ferko as the Public Records Act training designee for Mayor Jennifer Domzalski and councilmembers for 2022.
The council repealed two earlier resolutions that had addressed health‑insurance payroll deductions: Resolution No. 2022‑36 repealed Resolution 2022‑10 as it pertained to Police Department payroll deductions, and Resolution No. 2022‑37 repealed Resolution 2022‑09 as it pertained to Fire Department payroll deductions; both repeals are effective June 1, 2022. Each repeal was read, the three‑reading rule was suspended and the council adopted the measures on unanimous recorded votes of the members present.
Council authorized Service Department Superintendent Jason Walters to sell a 2000 Ford F‑550 and a tire balancer on gov.deals; the motion was made by Noack, seconded by Ferko and approved by roll‑call vote. Walters said the Village received a favorable bid to demolish a fire‑damaged house at 166 Summit Avenue; because the property appears abandoned and no insurance was in effect, Walters said the Village will mail required notices, post them on the property and proceed with the work after the notice period, with the cost likely certified to the county tax bill if necessary.
Engineer Daniel Collins reported the Coventry Project is on track to start June 1, weather permitting, and that he has notified affected residents; he also said the Planning Commission meeting was rescheduled for May 31 to consider a three‑building expansion by Redi‑Storage. Walters said the village is proceeding with park and facility projects, including repaving at Smith Park and planned work at Magnolia Park, with final pricing pending.
Council concluded the meeting by adopting a resolution (2022‑38) honoring former Mayor Victor Milani following his passing. The meeting adjourned at 8:17 p.m.
