The Village of Northfield council confirmed three full‑time firefighter/paramedic appointments during its May 25, 2022 regular meeting and the newly appointed employees were sworn in immediately.
Council read and adopted Resolutions No. 2022‑31, 2022‑32 and 2022‑33 to confirm the Mayor/Director of Public Safety's appointments of Christian Bobak, Paul Wojtkiewicz and Sean Davis. The resolutions set the appointees’ start date as June 5, 2022. Council suspended the three‑reading rule and approved each resolution by roll‑call vote of the members present.
Fire Chief Jason Buss administered the oath of office to the three appointees and thanked the mayor and council for completing the appointments. Buss said the hires build on earlier steps toward full‑time staffing and “these additional appointments will bring further stability to the Department in this tight labor market.”
Buss also reported the department applied for an employee retention bonus grant that could be used for both part‑time and full‑time staff. He said the department’s new fire engine is scheduled for final inspection between June 1 and June 3, with delivery expected in mid‑June and the vehicle in service by about July 1.
The council did not debate the appointments at length; the votes were recorded as affirmative from the four councilmembers who participated in roll‑call for those motions.
