MSAD 19 board approves calendar change, adopts fixed-assets policy and reappoints teachers; principal given 3% raise

The Maine School Administrative District No. 19 school board voted unanimously March 9 to make several personnel and policy changes and to alter the 2025–26 school calendar.
At a meeting in the Lubec Elementary School cafeteria, the board voted 5-0 to change March 13, 2026, to a student day and make March 14 a teacher workshop day; the motion was made by Vice Chair Wanda Reed and seconded by Jane Lanctot. The vote followed routine administrative reports and a presentation of building operations.
The board also completed a second reading and approved policy DIDA, Fixed Assets, on a 5-0 vote after a motion from Wanda Reed seconded by Jane Lanctot. The policy adoption was presented as a standard governance update during the New Business portion of the meeting.
Several personnel actions were approved unanimously. Dea Swain was moved from second-year probationary status to a continuing appointment (motion by Jane Lanctot, second by Richard Huntley Jr.). Ginny Raichart was approved for continuing status (motion by Richard Huntley Jr., second by Richard Eaton). Carolyn Tinker advanced from first-year to second-year probationary status (motion by Richard Huntley Jr., second by Wanda Reed). Eleody Libby advanced from first-year to second-year probationary status (motion by Richard Huntley Jr., second by Richard Eaton).
After a closed executive session held under the statutory citation 1 M.R.S.A. § 405(6)(D) to discuss negotiations with Principal Lovina Wormell, the board voted 5-0 to grant Wormell a 3% salary increase and a three-year contract extending through June 2029 (motion by Wanda Reed, second by Richard Huntley Jr.).
During public comment, resident Dana Bradley asked why windows were open on the high school side on a cold day; staff member Jennifer Bristol replied that some rooms were registering 81–85 degrees and staff discussed recent boiler repairs. Principal Lovina Wormell had earlier reported that the kitchen inspection passed, Riverside Electric cleared a generator error code, and two boiler pipes were replaced.
The board took no action on the second draft of the 2026–27 budget at this meeting. The session adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
