City Attorney Ty Viet Phan told council the change is a cleanup to ensure consistent timing: campaign signs would be allowed no earlier than 60 days before an election and must be removed within 10 days after. "This amendment would ensure that they align, and it would allow political campaign signs as defined to be erected not earlier than 60 days prior to the election... and it must be removed within 10 days following that same election," Phan said.
Council members noted enforcement challenges when out‑of‑jurisdiction candidates leave signs up after elections and asked staff to coordinate code‑enforcement responses for state and federal campaigns. The council moved, seconded and the motion to introduce Ordinance 26‑03 for first reading carried.
