Staff said the City Council asked departments to prepare revised budgets after a June 9 presentation. Initial state information suggests Menlo Park could receive up to 65% of Vehicle License Fee (VLF) pass‑through, but the amount and the Council’s decision remain uncertain. Council action is expected at its June 23 meeting; if unresolved a special session could be scheduled for June 30 to adopt a budget before the July 1 deadline.
Staff also reported robust summer programming: summer reading sign‑ups were approaching 1,000 at mid‑June—well ahead of last year’s pace—and events such as a puppetry festival drew heavy attendance in the library annex. Promotions rely on in‑library materials, social media and the LCS newsletter, which staff said has a strong open rate and reach.
On routine business, commissioners moved and approved the minutes of the May 18 meeting in a roll‑call vote with all members recorded as voting in the affirmative. No further votes were taken.
