Selectboard approves transfer of $17,345 in Richmond soccer funds to dedicated soccer infrastructure account

The Richmond Selectboard voted Sept. 3 to move $17,345 held by the town for the Richmond Recreational Soccer program into a dedicated fund for soccer infrastructure and related program expenses.
Multiple parents and Mansfield United representatives described their plan to run registration and program operations, arguing the clubmodel would reduce volunteer bookkeeping and improve continuity. "We have about six to eight of us that just are all our kids are in soccer and we just really love it," said Danielle Altenberg, who presented the proposal and explained Mansfield Uniteds support role.
Fran Thomas, long-time Recreation Committee chair, told the board the funds should remain earmarked for Richmond and Bolton children and for field improvements: "the funds ... should only be used to help Richmond soccer on the field," she said.
Board members discussed alternatives including paying an immediate invoice for new nets and allocating remaining funds for Volunteer Green field maintenance. The motion the board adopted created a town-held, dedicated soccer infrastructure/reserve fund the club can draw on by submitting invoices, and authorized payment of existing invoices requested by Mansfield United.
The motion passed on a roll-call vote of the board.
