State board approves $8 million for Park Ranch conservation; Alpine County to receive $3 million

Sam Booth, Alpine County’s county executive officer, told the Board of Supervisors on June 2 that the California Wildlife Conservation Board approved the county’s grant application for the Park Ranch acquisition and conservation. "In total, it was an $8,000,000 grant from the state, $5,000,000 to Western Rivers Conservancy, and then they'll relay their portion to the county, and $3,000,000 to Alpine County," Booth said.
Booth said the approval was the largest grant on the Wildlife Conservation Board’s agenda and that staff will work with Western Rivers Conservancy as they finalize grant agreements and prepare for closing. "We pushed out some information about that... and I'll bring back some more information as we proceed through that process this summer," he said.
Board members responded with thanks and interest in visiting the property before closing. A supervisor encouraged a site visit so board members could better understand the property and conservation plans. Booth indicated county staff will provide additional details about the grant terms and next steps in future meetings.
The grant announcement came as part of routine public comments and board reports; Booth said Western Rivers Conservancy will administer its portion and relay funds intended for Alpine County. The county did not provide further implementation details or a schedule for closing during the June 2 meeting.
