New Boston Select Board accepts fire chief's resignation; chief to assist transition

The New Boston Select Board on June 15 accepted the resignation of the town's fire chief. The departing chief told the board that after a period of major projects'including building the new station and ordering apparatus'he and his family decided it was time to step back for family reasons. The chief said he plans to remain in town and assist with the transition to a new chief.
"We've accomplished a lot in a really short period of time," the departing chief said, citing the new station, a new engine and a utility truck among recent projects. Board members thanked him for his service and said they would advertise the position immediately and form a panel to conduct oral-board interviews.
The chair said the town expects to post the vacancy in the coming days and convene an oral-board selection process similar to prior recruitments; in the interim firefighters will share responsibilities to cover operations until a suitable candidate is selected.
Next steps: the town will post the chief's vacancy, assemble an interview panel and begin candidate screening; the board will provide updates once applications have been received.
