Diamond Bar honors retiring City Manager Dan Fox and approves contract for successor Ryan McLean

The Diamond Bar City Council on June 16 honored outgoing City Manager Dan Fox for nine years of service and approved an employment agreement making Assistant City Manager Ryan McLean the city’s next manager effective July 1.
Mayor Tai and multiple council members presented Fox with a plaque thanking him for his work from July 2017 through June 2026. Fox told the council, "It's been just an honor to serve this community, for the past 9 years," and said he was pleased to pass leadership to McLean.
City Attorney Omar Sandoval summarized the terms of McLean’s agreement: an annual salary of $289,806, a $750 monthly car allowance, $15,000 in deferred compensation and the same retirement, vacation and medical benefits provided to other executive management employees. Sandoval said the agreement requires an amendment to the city's MissionSquare 401(a) plan to enable the deferred‑compensation payment.
Councilmember Lu moved to approve the employment agreement and Mayor Pro Tem Lo seconded. The roll call vote was unanimous. After the vote, council members congratulated McLean and again thanked Fox for his service.
The city clerk recorded the approved start date of July 1, 2026, and the city manager was authorized to execute administrative steps necessary for the transition prior to Fox’s retirement.
The council did not receive public comment on the contract at the meeting. The employment agreement, as described in the staff report, becomes part of the city’s public record following council action.
