Lubec school board approves procurement policy revisions, cash-management forms and gym lighting repairs

At its Dec. 4 meeting, the RSU 85/MSAD 19 school committee approved a slate of procurement and expense policies, adopted new procedures for travel reimbursement and cash management, and authorized a facilities contractor to repair gym lighting — each action recorded as a 5-0 vote.

Richard Huntley, Jr. moved, and Jane Lanctot seconded, approval of the second readings for policy revisions DJ (Bidding/Purchasing Requirements), DJ-R (Federal Procurement Manual), DJH (Purchasing and Contracting) and DKC (Expense Authorization and Reimbursement). Each policy in that slate passed 5-0. The board separately approved the second reading to adopt DKC-R, Expense Reimbursement Procedure: Travel, on a 5-0 vote (motion by Richard Huntley, Jr.; second by Jane Lanctot). Jane Lanctot moved, and Richard Huntley, Jr. seconded, adoption of the Cash Management Procedure and Forms; the committee approved that motion 5-0.

Committee member Richard Huntley, Jr. reported multiple lights in the gym were out or blinking and said Daine Greenier of Amer-Can, LLC recommended installing LED bulbs to replace older fluorescent fixtures for safety reasons. The board voted 5-0 to have Amer-Can, LLC fix the lights; while the lift is at the school, Amer-Can will also inspect the scoreboard, according to the meeting record.

Superintendent MaryEllen Day also reported administrative items including a November revenue-and-expense report, a schedule change moving the Jan. 1 meeting to Jan. 5, 2026, and several appointments reported for coaches and club advisors; those appointments were presented in the superintendent’s report and are recorded in the minutes.

Principal Lovina Wormell provided the school calendar, noted STAR testing on Dec. 1 and upcoming winter concerts and extracurricular events, and stated enrollment at 85 students.
