At a March 25 work session, Chattahoochee County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners the county has received a Local Road Assistance grant that complements LMIG funding, enabling additional road repairs. Weaver said McGlaun Road and part of Smith Road have been regraded with number‑seven stone but will require additional work; Liberty Hill Road and Wells Street needed riprap repairs. Weaver reported the county’s 2025 SPLOST account has begun receiving revenues and that the landfill headwall repair was completed and reported to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.
Work session material noted that Friendship Road LMIG bid packets had arrived but the board had previously tabled a vote; commissioners instructed staff to review bid specifications and continue the item at a future work session. The board discussed Riverbend Road as a potential TSPLOST or regional project and planned to raise that at a regional meeting.
County staff also presented a set of proposed quarterly budget amendments to correct and cover items not previously budgeted, including EMS salaries, prisoner housing and legal services; the manager estimated six amendments totaling approximately $294,725 to be funded from reserves. Commissioners discussed the need to follow up with the sheriff on prisoner housing status and agreed quarterly amendment reviews would be a recurring work‑session agenda item.
Community development staff provided event and outreach updates — including an April 5 rabies clinic, upcoming 4‑H activities and a car show — and the manager said he will have staff and the county attorney (Bin Minter) work with the cemetery committee to formalize bylaws and member terms. The county attorney will also attend the planning & zoning meeting on March 27 to clarify the Conditional Use Permit process and variance procedures for applicants.
Chairman Charles Coffey raised concerns about public‑records access and nondisclosure practices, citing Q‑Public as an example where the county’s public records disclosures have not always met expectations; he asked commissioners to review open‑records rules and said staff would pursue changes to ensure compliance.
The work session ended with direction to prepare the budget calendar, review the Friendship Road bid packet at a later session and place the cemetery bylaws and CUP clarifications on the April 1 regular meeting agenda where appropriate.
