The personnel committee moved unanimously to forward an updated employee grievance policy to full council after staff said the revision creates a clearer, timelier, documented process for raising and resolving employee concerns.
The committee chair explained the policy was drafted by the city's human-resources representative and “has been vetted and is in line with industry standards,” and Administrator Shannon Herman said the change helps meet accreditation components related to internal grievance handling.
Committee members also approved a slate of grievance-board appointees who will serve staggered two-year terms so the board can establish rotational continuity; staff said appointees represent employees across departments and future appointments will come before council as part of boards and commissions review.
The committee recorded unanimous support in committee to send both the policy update and appointments to full council; no committee vote tallies beyond a voice motion were provided.
