Council Vice President and Public Works lead Mark Stecak told Glassport Borough Council on Nov. 19 that ongoing televising of borough sewers has revealed two fully collapsed lines.
“To date they have found 2 fully collapsed lines,” Stecak said, and the borough is "waiting for the engineer’s recommendations on how to proceed." The council did not vote on repairs at the meeting; instead members moved to advertise the sale of older equipment to help manage fleet and budget needs. Motions to advertise the sale of a 2000 bucket truck (motion by Kowalski, second by DeVerse) and a scissor lift (motion by DeVerse, second by Norelli) were approved by recorded votes of 6 yes, 0 no, 1 absent.
Council members said televising will continue while staff and contracted engineers develop options for repairing collapsed segments. No timeline or cost estimates for repairs were provided during the meeting.
The council’s action to declare and advertise older apparatus for sale is a standard municipal asset-management step intended to reduce maintenance costs and free funds for capital needs. Final disposition and any proceeds from sale will be handled according to borough procurement rules.
