Council President Anthony Colecchi announced at the July 16 meeting that Glassport Borough Council voted to advertise for financing proposals to fund renovations to the police side of the new municipal complex.
The motion, made by Councilman Paul Trunzo and seconded by Council Vice President Mark Stecak, passed unanimously (Yes 6, No 0). Council also authorized MBM to file petitions seeking tax-exemption status for the new municipal complex, the Senior Center, the Patterson property and the police station; that motion likewise passed unanimously.
The actions follow a July 12 pre-construction meeting for the police-side renovations. Councilwoman Amy Nabors said the architect and contractors met with borough staff and that "Everything is in order and the work is scheduled to start immediately." The council authorized advertising for financing proposals so the borough can evaluate lending or bond options to cover construction costs.
Officials did not provide a financing amount at the meeting and did not specify a timeline for filing or for a final financing decision. Council asked staff to solicit proposals; next steps include review of proposals and formal selection of a financing vehicle at a future meeting. The authorization for MBM to file tax-exemption petitions is intended to seek property-tax relief for the listed municipal projects pending whatever approvals the tax authority requires.
The council passed both motions as recorded in meeting minutes; there were no recorded dissenting votes. Council expects contractors to begin work on the police-side renovations per the pre-construction meeting, and the borough will return to council with financing proposals for consideration.
