Glassport Borough Council voted June 18 to award the lowest responsible bids for a planned Police Station renovation and to begin steps to secure funding for the project.
Council approved contracts for the work: Graham Construction ($618,669.00, general), Vrabel Plumbing ($327,200.00, plumbing), Hranec Sheet Metal ($119,870.00, HVAC) and Uzmack Electric ($106,655.00, electrical). The awards were made in a single motion and approved 5-0.
The council also voted to advertise a request for proposals to fund the renovations and authorized the borough solicitor to take all actions necessary to secure funding, including preparing any required resolutions or ordinance advertisements. Both funding actions passed on unanimous votes.
Resident Rosemary Bradley raised funding concerns at the start of the meeting, asking, "where the money is going to come from" for the renovations. Council did not present a final funding source at the meeting; instead, members directed staff and the solicitor to pursue potential financing and advertise a formal RFP so proposals can be evaluated.
The council scheduled a public hearing and other procedural steps tied to related property matters; a July 16 public hearing was announced for a separate lot-consolidation item. The council minutes show the motion record and the award amounts; no vote dissent was recorded.
Next steps: the borough will accept funding proposals through the advertised RFP process and the solicitor will return with recommended legal steps and any necessary ordinance advertising to implement financing.
