On applications, staff reported submission of a farm‑to‑school grant and a larger DOVIA/DOIA application (submitted May 22) that was discussed in detail later in the meeting in connection with the Charles Barnum facility. The district is preparing to seek renewal of its 21st‑Century ‘‘Roots’’ program at the middle school and is eyeing expansion to serve the high school.
Board members pressed for more public-facing information: one member asked for a dedicated grants page on the district website to highlight awarded funds and successes, while others asked for clarification about awards that are characterized differently from traditional grants. Shannon said certain items that appear on district materials are not technically awards and may have special terms.
