Valley View raises seasonal pay to $20 an hour to attract workers, council says

The Valley View village council on May 6 adopted Ordinance 2025-5-3 to update hourly pay for seasonal employees.
Council members said existing entries for seasonal help showed $9.60 for ages 15–18 and $11.00 for older workers, while they cited a local minimum wage of $10.70. The council said staff research found average seasonal pay in the area near $20 an hour and selected $20 as the new rate to attract college students and other quality candidates.
Members discussed whether to invoke an emergency clause. Staff explained that if the ordinance is passed under suspension it will still take effect in 30 days, which gives department staff time to advertise and hire for summer positions before peak season. The council suspended the rules and approved the ordinance unanimously.
Council directed staff to proceed with recruitment under the updated pay schedule.
