Residents raise unresolved Pinehurst drainage and ponding concerns at River Ridge meeting

At its July 23, 2024 meeting, the River Ridge Community Development District heard public complaints that recent work to plug street drains has not fixed chronic ponding and flood risk in the Pinehurst area.
Resident Shari Perkins told the Board that “a week after the street drains were plugged, the drainage issues persist; water has been overflowing in the triangle monument area,” and relayed an email from resident Fred Kronke reporting a retention pond between River 8 and River 9 that appears non-functional and was nearly 1 foot above the drain.
District Engineer John Baker said plugging an inlet stopped water from one system flowing directly into another, but that “the inlet was plugged, which means there is no longer a pushing action with water coming out; however, there is no place for the water to go and it is essentially akin to a very tiny pond in a pipe.” He told the Board the condition will likely require additional study and recommended photographing or videotaping instances of ponding to help staff diagnose the problem.
Board members asked for evidence; Ms. Perkins said she will provide photographs and video footage to CDD staff. A Board member directed the District Engineer to inspect the drainage in person.
Resident Ed Nowak asked about the location of the outflow at the northern end of Pinehurst Greens Drive. District Manager Chuck Adams said the pipes in question convey water to the Estero River after running between houses, across the golf course and into the ditch that leads to the River Club.
The Board did not take a formal vote on remedial work at the meeting. Staff will receive the video and photographs from residents and the District Engineer will perform a field review to recommend next steps.
