MassDOT audit and bridge replacement to affect Route 28 traffic; wastewater work to continue into construction season

Staff reported that MassDOT and the Cape Cod Commission will conduct a road-safety audit for Route 28 and that the Route 28 bridge replacement is moving forward: the notice to proceed was issued on St. Patrick’s Day and the project—cited as costing about $64,000,000—will run into the fall with intermittent detours.
The town’s West Dennis segment of the Route 28 project has submitted 25% design and a public meeting is expected this spring; wastewater collection contracts for work south of Route 6 are starting in the next month and will affect local streets during construction. Staff said they will share project plans and a time-lapse camera for the wastewater plant work and will coordinate detour and pavement schedules with MassDOT to limit community disruption.
The committee was told that much of the work is funded and that some impacts (detours, temporary closures) are unavoidable; staff will continue to update the committee on schedule and funding as the projects proceed.
