Jasper County schedules public hearings on EMS essential-service resolution and budget amendment

The Jasper County Board of Supervisors on June 9 set public hearings to consider whether emergency medical services should be declared an essential service under Iowa Code Chapter 422D and to consider a fiscal-year 2025–2026 budget amendment.
Supervisor Cupples moved to schedule the hearing on the EMS resolution, and Chairman Thad Nearmyer seconded. The board recommended three hearing dates: Aug. 11, Aug. 18 and Aug. 25, 2026, all at 9:30 a.m. in the Jasper County Board of Supervisors room.
Cupples also moved, and Nearmyer seconded, to set a public hearing on the FY 2025–2026 budget amendment for June 23, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. in the same location. Both motions passed with recorded YEA votes from Cupples and Nearmyer.
Why it matters: The resolution to declare emergency medical services an essential service is being considered pursuant to Iowa Code Chapter 422D, as noted in the board motion. The board provided multiple dates to allow public input before any final action. The budget-amendment hearing will give members of the public an opportunity to review proposed changes to the county’s current fiscal-year budget.
