Town and fire officials gave the Safety Board progress reports on two station projects and the department's apparatus procurement schedule.
The Fire Chief said the Station 292 apparatus bay expansion is a $500,000 project; structural steel beams were installed and the job is about a week behind schedule but remains on budget, with completion expected in late third quarter. "Fire Station 292, the bay apparatus bay expansion project is a $500,000 project. It is moving along. ... It's maybe about a week behind right now, but it's not scheduled to be finished until late third quarter," the Fire Chief reported.
Officials also updated the board that Fire Station 295, located on 550 South in Western Zionsville, is an approximately $8 million project in final design. The project team has been meeting with the development group and expects to present elevation views at the next Safety Board meeting. Staff said the design will reflect the industrial character of adjacent property, including a large Subaru warehouse, and that a groundbreaking could be scheduled within the next 60 days.
On apparatus procurement, staff listed five units on order: a tanker expected in roughly 60 days, two ambulances due September–October 2026, two engines scheduled for March 2027, and a replacement ladder truck on a build schedule with delivery expected in November 2029. The chief said apparatus lead times and manufacturer build schedules explain the staggered arrivals.
The board heard no votes on these capital items at this meeting; staff said more material (elevation views and design details) will be provided at a future meeting.
