Platte Center trustees address drainage, sewer clog and approve claims including LARM insurance

At its Sept. 15 meeting the Platte Center Board heard a village maintenance report about drainage plugs, a sewer clog caused by rope, and a water main leak; trustees approved routine claims including a $36,969 insurance payment to LARM and $11,333.75 to LRE Water.
Village Maintenance Andrew Greisen reported several infrastructure problems and routine upkeep needs at the Sept. 15 Platte Center Board of Trustees meeting. Greisen said a Highland addition has caused a roughly six-foot plug in village drainage requiring cleaning; he will have Obrist clear a culvert by the church and clean both sides of 4th and G to restore flow. A resident requested placing a culvert on the east side of the campsite; the board agreed to table that request until the resident can appear in person.
Greisen also reported a water main leak near the fire station that the village will repair "ASAP," and a recurring sewer lift-station clog caused by a resident disposing of rope into the public sewer. Greisen said he has worked on the sewer issue for about nine days and the village plans to send an alert to residents to prevent future blockages. On wastewater management, Greisen reported there is "absolutely no moss on the outside of the lagoons" and said he believes the existing bug program is effective. Loup Power District performed alley tree maintenance to keep branches clear of power lines.
Clerk/Treasurer Brooke Schmidt reviewed financial items and presented bank balances: checking $81,347.47; grant account $8,545.55; auditorium donations $10,158.80; water savings $61,580.73; sales tax savings $82,767.25. Schmidt said the village would use LARM safety-fund reimbursements (up to $500) to purchase safety equipment and noted LARM updated village photos and a new insurance policy was signed.
The board considered and approved claims that included a $36,969.00 payment to LARM for insurance, $11,333.75 to LRE Water for the Wellhead Protection Plan, payroll of $9,366.45 for August, and multiple vendor invoices for utilities and services. Trustee Barber moved to approve claims and Trustee Hake seconded; roll call recorded Ayes — Hassebrook, Sliva, Hake, Barber; Nays — none. The board adjourned at 7:45 p.m. and set the next meeting for Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
