Buckeye Lake council: firefighter sworn in, summer programs, roads and code updates

Buckeye Lake Village Council used much of its June 24 meeting for routine business, appointments and public-safety and public-works updates.
Mayor Linda Goodman swore in Eric Wetherell as a firefighter/EMT and introduced summer intern Ciara Reits, a city-planning student from Ohio State. Police Chief Jason Harget said officers will staff the BLASST fireworks event, run a kids activity on July 3 and resume movie nights with Parks and Recreation; he described a FLOCK license-plate-reader used for investigative searches and said the department may add additional units.
Fire Chief Keisha Amspaugh reported department run counts, billing, a new member and interest from potential buyers for an inoperable engine; she and Councilor Deb Julian asked staff to pursue a timely sale. Public Works Superintendent Toby Miller briefed council on the SS4A action-plan consultant schedule, announced a town-hall meeting Aug. 5 and said Cranberry paving is substantially complete; he added that a stormwater design has been submitted to Ohio EPA and that iWorq permitting is online for public-works tasks.
Code Enforcement Officer Rex Adkins said staff is managing 53 active cases, 32 complaints and has issued 11 short-term-rental licenses to date (21 applications pending). Council approved two community requests: a waived yard-sale fee for Cranberry Bay residents for June 28–30 and a villagewide free yard-sale weekend Aug. 2–4.
