Members said the suggested shoreland changes were mostly clarifying edits from state-recommended language (the clerk cited a 2018 guidance document). The planning board was offered the opportunity to meet and vote on the changes in time to include them in the public hearing scheduled for Feb. 19; if weather prevented that meeting, the planning board would hold its own hearing on the regular schedule.
The board discussed sign-size language and whether municipal signs used for town purposes should be treated differently; the consensus was to preserve a municipal sign limit of six square feet while acknowledging that some existing signs were grandfathered. The board agreed attorney suggestions to shift certain code authority references from the Select Board to the planning board were appropriate, since the planning board sets fees and handles code jurisdiction.
Board members directed staff to proceed with the planning board review so the edits could be included in the public hearing process.
