The Select Board discussed scheduling for upcoming town business at its May 12 meeting and set several near-term deadlines.
The School Committee finalized its budget and requested the Select Board call a June 17 Town Meeting; Town Manager Garrett Corbin said there may also be warrant articles on a personnel policy ordinance (which would alter the practice of hiring primary staff), a potential vote regarding the golf course, and a WSKI franchise fee. Corbin asked members to consider other items that might require attention at the Town Meeting.
Because the personnel policy and related job-description updates had been delayed, the Board agreed to hold a special Select Board meeting on Monday, May 19 at 3:30 p.m. at the Town Office focused on the personnel policy, job descriptions, the work plan and an executive session to discuss employee merit increases. Board members also discussed the limits of their hiring authority under state statute; Corbin said an ordinance would be required for the Board to assume hiring authority rather than the Town Manager.
The Board set its next regular meeting for Tuesday, May 27 at 4:30 p.m. because the usual Monday falls on Memorial Day.
