Upper Merion board discusses Henderson Road mural replacement, previews upcoming business meeting

Assistant Township Manager Amanda Fean told the Upper Merion Board of Supervisors on May 7 that muralist John Lewis of Bridgeport will replace the Henderson Road mural because the original was not feasible to save. Lewis quoted $36,537 for the replacement, Fean said; the business improvement district (BID) pledged $7,000 and the township expects a $7,500 grant from the Board of Community Assistance, leaving a funding gap of roughly $22,037. Fean said the project is not budgeted and the township is seeking suggestions, including approaching Colonial Electric and community fundraising. The board elected to defer a final vote until the Business Meeting when all supervisors can participate.
Township Manager Anthony Hamaday also previewed items on the Business Meeting agenda: recognition of National Police Week and Public Works Week; presentation of BCA grants and scholarships; continuation of a Conditional Use Hearing for 252 Arden Road; consideration of adopting a 2021 National Fire Code ordinance; the resignation of David Camarda from the UCC Appeals Board; a letter of support for Radnor Township's application for the DCDC Multimodal trail; disposition of vehicles (estimated proceeds about $31,000); payment to Glasgow Inc. for 2026 road resurfacing ($774,015.54); an agreement with Rising Sun Presents, LLC for Concert Under the Stars; and payment to Traffic Planning & Design, Inc. for the Moore Road Multimodal Trail. The workshop adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
Fean summarized the mural situation to the board, saying the original work "was not feasible to save" and that the replacement quote was lower than earlier estimates. Supervisors discussed possible private-sector and community contributions and opted to vote on funding at the business meeting where full membership will be present.
