The Social Circle Mayor and Council took time during their meeting to introduce newly hired staff across public works and utilities and to preview summer community events.
Mayor introduced several new city employees in the street department: Earl Neil, Adam Cannon and Philip Hodge, and Antonio Meadows. John Allen introduced himself as a Class I water plant operator and the operator in charge, noting his certifications and offering residents a direct contact for water issues: "If y'all have any problem with the water, you know, just give me a call," John Allen said. The council also welcomed David Johns as the interim finance director; staff said he brings about 25 years of accounting experience with roles in Monroe and Porterdale.
A city staff member provided the June events rundown: the farmers market’s theme for the coming Thursday is "Tomato Day" with tasting and tomato-themed products (Friendship Park, 4:00–7:00 p.m.); filming for two productions (Scooby-Doo and Turpentine) was recently completed with only minor traffic delays; a Friendship Park concert sponsored by Rivian drew a strong turnout; the Hometown Hero parade registration deadline was extended to June 22 with the parade scheduled July 2 at 6:00 p.m.; and Coffee and Conversations will be held at the Welcome Center on June 30 at 9:00 a.m.
The introductions and event notices were presented as part of the meeting’s staff reports; no formal council action was required for these items.
