Public commenter urges county support for Energy Saver NC outreach and application assistance

At the start of the meetings public-comment period, Magdalina Miguel, an energy navigator with Energy Funds for All, asked the board for support hosting outreach events to help residents apply for Energy Saver North Carolina, a state program that provides weatherization and energy-efficiency work up to $16,000 for eligible households.
Miguel described her role helping residents under 80% of area median income apply for free weatherization and told commissioners the program includes direct contractor participation and an online application portal that can be difficult for some residents. "The homes program allows applicants under 80% of the area median income to receive free weatherization and energy efficiency improvements in their homes up to $16,000," she said.
She said $28 million is available to qualified homeowners and renters through 2031 or until funds are exhausted, and asked the county for help identifying locations, advertising the event and offering space for in-person application assistance. Frankie and other staff volunteered to coordinate outreach and suggested county community events where the program could be promoted.
The board thanked Miguel and encouraged staff to follow up to identify appropriate venues and support for future outreach events.
