Edenton council approves inducement resolution for Tower Lane bonds and backs letter supporting grocery EDA

At its June meeting the Edenton Town Council took two formal actions: it approved an administration committee recommendation to adopt an inducement resolution for conduit bonds tied to properties on Tower Lane, and it approved a letter of support to Choan County for a proposed grocery-oriented economic development agreement.

On the inducement resolution, the administration committee recommended the council take action on a conduit-bond project at properties listed in the agenda. A motion and second were made and the motion carried by voice vote.

On the grocery economic-development item, staff described the proposed letter of support as a first, performance-based step to show the county the town supports pursuing a tripartite agreement; staff said the final EDA would return later for a formal vote. Joe Lock, identified in the meeting as head of the development corporation, was cited by a council member as someone who could explain the details to Choan County. The council voted to approve the letter; the county will hold its public comment period on the 15th.

Council also approved multiple reappointments to advisory boards and commissions: Preservation Commission reappointments (Caroline Butler, Wade Rogers), Planning Board appointments (Earl Willis, Frasier Kelly) and a Tree Committee appointment (Ed Ross). The council administered an oath to Lucas Belton for the Historic Preservation Commission.

Voting and next steps: Both the inducement resolution and the letter of support passed by voice vote; the inducement resolution does not by itself issue bonds but clears a procedural step toward financing. The county will handle its public comment and a final EDA vote at a later meeting.
