The Dallas County Board of Supervisors on June 9 approved Change Order #5 for the courthouse renovation, adding $206,941 and extending the project schedule by 88 days.
Kristofer Orth of the Farnsworth Group presented the change order, explaining that design changes removed several load-bearing walls in the fourth-floor courtroom and that additional steel beams and columns are required to restore structural support. Orth told the Board there were no existing as-built drawings for the portions affected and that the needed work was not predictable until construction progressed.
The additional work increases the contract amount by $206,941 and pushes the scheduled completion date back by 88 days; staff said occupancy is expected in mid-to-late October 2026. Supervisor Kim Chapman moved to approve the change order and authorize the chair to sign; Supervisor Brad Golightly seconded the motion and the Board voted all ayes.
The Board recorded the schedule change and authorized County staff to execute the approved change order. County officials said the project team will proceed with the structural work and update the public schedule as needed.
