Town submits Safe Streets for All grant seeking nearly $900,000; mayor to send county support letter

Town Administrator Aitken told the council the Safe Streets for All grant application was submitted the day of the work session and represents nearly $900,000 in potential funding to address paving on roads not covered by the BUILD grant. Aitken said staff received a follow-up call from the Governor’s office — typically an encouraging sign — and that results are expected by the end of June.
Councilman Ellis noted Lincoln County had requested a letter of support for a county Transportation Alternatives Master Plan project that includes trails and a widened walking/bike path along Muddy String. Administrator Aitken said the county project likely sits a decade or more out due to required easement acquisitions, but the council agreed Mayor Rok would provide a letter of support and that the Mayor would circulate the county plan link for council review.
Council members observed that if county or state road projects move forward in the near term the town could potentially benefit from coordinated asphalt pricing; the discussion produced no formal intergovernmental commitments beyond the agreed letter of support.
