At the Jan. 19 meeting of the RSU 23 board, student representative Matthew Cantara-Bisson summarized student activities and upcoming events at Old Orchard Beach High School.
Cantara-Bisson said the band and jazz band will perform Jan. 27 and Feb. 3 at Loranger, and that jazz students are preparing for the Maine Music Educators Association Jazz Festival at Kennebunk High School on Feb. 8 and the Maine Band Directors Association Jazz Festival at Westbrook High School on Feb. 11. He also reported chorus enrollment gains, credited new band director Mr. Chasse for positive influence on music programs, and described recent and planned Outing Club trips including canoeing, hiking, rock climbing and a weekend trip to Camden Hill State Park. Cantara-Bisson noted both varsity girls' and boys' teams were 10-1 and had qualified for the postseason; JV records were also reported.
Superintendent John Suttie used his report to thank donor David Goyet for a $1,000 gift to the high school special education program and to congratulate seniors Elise McNair and Landon Johnson on each reaching 1,000 career basketball points.
The board expressed appreciation for student activity programming and donor support. No formal actions or budget votes tied specifically to these items are recorded in the minutes.
